Three Finish SCYSA Challenge State Cup Finalists

93 Boys Elite- Finalists

The 93 Elite Boys finished as Finalists at the 2011 SCYSA Bob Brantley Publix Challenge State Cup. The 93 Boys team made unprecedented strides this year with a 3-2 overtime win in the first round against CESA 93 Challenge and a 3-2 overtime victory over Palmetto United FC 93 Premier in the semifinal match. Victories coming over both teams who had competed in the Region III Premier League Eastern Division this past fall. When asked about his team’s performance, Coach Brian Workman had this to say, "As these boys finished their youth soccer careers today, they will always be able to carry with them the knowledge that they earned the right to say that I played on a Premier team."  Pictured above from left to right are: Will Gignilliat, Hunter Greer, Trent Rieflin, Zach Glusman, Brian Byrne, Hale McCullough, Sanders Dargan, James Appleby, Chrisitan Faale, Zack North, Torin Melville, Mitchell Scott, Cameron Picone,Wes Duckett, Coach Workman. 95 Boys Elite- Finalists

The 95 Boy’s Elite team entered the State Cup tournament as the 4th seed.  We proved quickly that we were better than that by beating the first seed 3-2.  We came out quick and by half time we were up 2-0 against the number 1 seed Discoveries.  In the second half the Discoveries team fought back to tie it 2-2 but with 10 minutes left in the game Johnathan Glenn netted the eventual game winner to advance us to the Final.  In the final match we fought hard against a very organized CESA team.  It was a very even battle with both teams playing very well defensively and only giving up a few shots.  We lost the game 1-0 but have now set our self up in a great position for next year by being invited to participate in the Premier League for our 2012 Fall season.

93 Girls Elite- Finalists

The 93 Girls are coached by Jason Birchwood and Collin Phillips. Coach Jason reports: It has been a great pleasure coaching this group of young ladies over the years. They have become the core of all the local high schools in Charleston/Low Country area and Columbia and they have represented the club on the highest order.  The girls qualified for the state cup weekend with a win against CESA Challenge 3-1, and earned the chance to play against South Carolina United FC for a chance to be State Cup Champions. On Saturday the team played some quality soccer to to defeat South Carolina United FC 5 -1. On Sunday the team came up short against Cesa Premier, but they left everything on the field displaying some spirited play in the second half. Only some great defending by CESA prevented the team from over coming the first half deficit. Personal thanks goes out the the players and parents for believing in the coaching staff and the support of the club over the years. Wishing the girls continued success in the future.
